Marie Patricia Gibson
July 6, 1941 ~ July 21, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Marie Patricia Gibson passed from this earthly life on Friday, July 21, 2023. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 6, 1941, to parents Michael and Catherine Desmond. She spent her childhood in the New York area before moving to Florida. During her high school years, she was part of the Latin and Italian American club. After moving to Florida, Marie worked at Winter Haven High School and at the Polk County Florida School Board.
Marie married Dannie Gibson in 2001. Ready to get away from city life, Marie fell in love with this area, and they made DeFuniak Springs home.
With a special quiet nature, Marie was attuned to people’s needs and was always willing to help anyone in need. One of her favorite sayings, “Do what you gotta do,” will forever serve as a source of encouragement to her beloved family and friends.
Her most treasured life’s moments were the births of her sons, her grandchildren, and her great-granddaughter. Sewing, cooking, and baking were among her favored ways to spend her time. She also deeply loved her animals – her horse, mule, dogs, cockatiel, and chickens. Dannie will always cherish the look on Marie’s sweet face when she taught her chickens to come to her whistle.
Marie is preceded in death by her father Michael H Desmond, her mother Catherine Jacono Desmond, and sons Michael Lancer and Ronald Lancer.
She is survived by her husband Dannie Gibson, son James Lancer, granddaughter Ashlyn Lancer, grandsons Jared, Johnathan, and Christopher Lancer, great-granddaughter Mila Murphy, and an aunt, Francis Desmond.
A memorial service will be held at McDonald Family Funeral Home, 668 Walton Road, Thursday July 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
