Emory Raworth Allen

January 21, 1935 — May 3, 2023

DeFuniak Springs

Surrounded by family, Emory Raworth Allen passed away peacefully at his home in DeFuniak Springs on May 3, 2023.  He was born in Augusta, Georgia to Ernest and Virginia Allen on January 21, 1935. He spent his early years living in Maryland and Pennsylvania where he graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School.  Emory then graduated with a BS from the University of Maryland and earned his Doctorate of Anatomy from the University of Pennsylvania.

He spent a few years as a Professor of Anatomy at the University of Pittsburgh, and he was proud to call Slidell, Louisiana home for 34 years as he continued instructing students as a Professor of Anatomy at LSU for all of those years.  While in Slidell, he served the community as a member of the school board, the Rotary Club, and the water board.  He retired to DeFuniak Springs and was pleased to call it home for the remainder of his life.

Emory was married to Skippy Allen for 40 years until she passed away.  He was then blessed to find his soul mate, Anusia, and treasured every minute spent with her during their marriage from 2001 to the present.

He served his country during time spent in the Navy – stationed in Pensacola – as a hospital corpsman and as a physician’s assistant.

Despite his respected educational achievements, Emory deemed the births of his sons, births of his grandchildren, and his marriage to Anusia as the proudest moments of his life.

Emory enjoyed a plethora of activities and could often be found fishing with James, drinking beer, spending time with family, golfing with Earl, studying science, or cheering for his favorite teams – the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.  He loved banana pudding (or anything banana flavored!), his Labrador, Cole, and his white truck.

Memories his family and friends will always treasure include vacations with Anusia and friends, the Disney Cruise with Anusia, Rachelle, and Memory, his kind heart and infectious laughter, and the unforgettable story of his gold thong!  His "Good golly!" and "I mean!" will resound in their ears and in their hearts for years to come.

Emory will always be remembered as the kindest and most loving soul most will ever meet.  He was very spiritual, always smiling, and persistently positive.  His love for his family, his brilliant wit and his boundless sense of humor set him apart as the incredibly special man he was.

Emory was preceded in death by his son Dennis Allen; his daughter Susan Basden; his parents, Ernest and Virgina Allen; his previous wife, Skippy Allen; and his sister-in-law Anna Allen.

He leaves behind a beautiful family including his wife, Anusia Allen; brothers Anton and James Allen; sons R.D. Allen (Amy), Robert Allen (Monica), Ron Allen, Richard Frederick, and Kenneth Frederick; granddaughters Annabeth Allen, Krystal Allen, Rachelle Ballinger, and Trayce Brinkman; grandsons Jake Allen, Christopher Frederick (Cassandra), and Sean Gammon (Virginia); and great grandchildren Sydney Ballinger, Memory Cook, Aaron Frederick, Delaney Frederick, Natalie Frederick, Rhys Frederick, Kenadie McGilvrey, Narian McGilvrey.

Emory was a wonderful husband to Anusia, an amazing father, an exceptional grandfather. He was a selfless person and had a zest for life that could not be matched.  He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.

The memorial service will held 10:00 AM Monday, June 12, 2023 at The First United Methodist Church in DeFuniak Springs, FL.
