Betty Nell McKenzie passed away on April 29, 2023, in Miramar Beach, Florida. She was born in Florala, Alabama on August 8, 1935, to parents Burl Daniels and Elizabeth Harrison Daniels. After graduating from Florala High School, Betty attended various colleges and Cosmetology School. She married Travis Edward McKenzie in 1952 and was a mother, homemaker, and beautician while her husband served in the military. Time spent living in Azores, Portugal, while Travis was stationed there, was always noted as a treasured time in Betty’s life.
She had great love for her family, time spent visiting grandchildren, the seashore, Lajes Azores, Portugal, Key West, and her pets Lola and Cricket. She loved to read, and she loved the special city of DeFuniak Springs, the Senior Center, and traveling.
Betty was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in DeFuniak Springs. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the DeFuniak Springs Senior Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Travis Edward McKenzie; her brother, Burl “June Bug” Daniels, and granddaughter, Ashley McKenzie.
Surviving are her children Gregory McKenzie (Michelle), Matthew McKenzie, and Robin McKenzie. She also leaves a beautiful legacy in her grandchildren: Melanie Kayseriliouglu (Karem), Channing McKenzie, Brian “Bocephus” Gilmore, Jessica West (Rob), Kaitly Okkema (Joseph), and her great grandchildren: Cameron and Chole Kayseriliouglu, Brett and Brook West, Jocelyn and Jaxson Okkema, and McKenzie Annabelle Ruberti.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Clear Springs Community Cemetery in Laurel Hill, Florida.
