WILLIAM "BILL" LINDSEY

July 21, 1942 — December 5, 2022

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS

William “Bill” Hewett Lindsey, Jr passed away on December 5, 2022.  He was born on July 21, 1942, in Pensacola, Florida, to William Hewett and Jeannette Garrett Lindsey.

In 1963 Bill joined the Navy and was trained as an Aviation Fire Control technician.  During his time serving his country, Bill was also trained to work on the AN/APQ-72 search and track radar system, the AN/AAA-4 Infra-red radar system, and the AN/APA-157 missile control radar system, and he maintained, repaired, and calibrated the component parts of the radar system on the F-4B aircraft.

After his time in the military, Bill worked many years for Eastman Kodak and he also helped the local radio and television stations broadcast sporting events.

Bill was an enthusiastic sports fan.  He himself was a Walton High School athlete from 1957-1960 as a basketball and baseball player – even throwing a no-hitter in a game versus Opp on April 3, 1959 and he was still an enthusiastic supporter of Walton Braves sports.  Along with long-time friend Glenn Martin, Bill attended every home football and basketball game he could.  He also loved watching college football and cheering for the North Carolina Tarheels and the Florida Gators.

He spent many of his retirement days with friends in the DeFuniak Springs area.  A part of the ‘noon group’ at Eagle Springs Golf Course, he was an avid golfer.  He also was dedicated to friends, meeting on Tuesdays with friends Patrick Casey and Butch Riley for food and quality fellowship.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Hewett Lindsey, Sr and Jeannette Garrett Lindsey and his brother, John Lindsey.

He is survived by his brother, Lewis R. “Bob” Lindsey (Janie) of DeFuniak Springs, nephews Robby Lindsey (Ioana), Jack Lindsey (Misty), Christopher Lindsey (Barbara), niece Bridgette Rayfield (Chad), and nine great-nieces and nephews.  Bill was also survived by John’s widow Brenda Ward Lindsey.

Visitation for Bill is Saturday, December 10 from 10:00AM-11:00AM and a time of memories from 11:00AM-12:00 noon at Evans-McDonald Funeral Home Chapel.
