William Archie Howell was born on March 31, 1941 to Oliver and Rachel Marie Howell. He spent all of his life living in DeFuniak Springs, but very few people knew him as William or Archie - he was W.A. or Dub to everyone who ever knew him. W.A. Howell passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2026.
Through his working years W.A. held some interesting jobs. He worked on televisions for Rainbow Electronics, was a school bus driver, was a truck driver for Georgia Highway Express - where he later earned a 30 year safe driving award, worked for H&W trucking, and then was the proud owner of D & A Landscaping where he enjoyed working alongside his wife, Annette, until their retirement.
In his free time he loved fishing and hunting. In his early years his hunting and fishing times were shared with Warren and Annette, and, more recently, he shared his favorite pastime with his great-grandchildren. Before Annette’s passing, the two of them enjoyed quick trips over to the casino when they could. Riding the golf cart, working in his yard, planting his garden, and making pepper sauce with his homegrown peppers were ways he spent his days. Over the years, he enjoyed the company of many pets - the hunting dogs Joe and Fanny, cats Buttons and Tiger, and dogs Jake, Shadow, Snowy, Trixie, plus many more.
W.A. is preceded in death by his wife Annette Howell, mother Rachel Marie Howell, father Oliver Howell, sisters Pauline Wamble and Ethelene Lindsey, and grandfather Willie D. Howell.
He is survived by his son Warren Howell and wife Amanda, grandchildren Brandon Howell (Jennifer), Ashton Howell, and Haley Howell, and great-grandchildren Parker, Saylor, and Cooper Howell. He also leaves behind sister-in-law Muriel Hicks, best friend Tommy Ferguson and numerous nieces and nephews.
People will remember him as loving and funny. There are stories that can be told and shared for many years to come. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
