Virginia Garrett Moody age 88, a life long resident of the area passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born October 3, 1925 in DeFuniak Springs, the daughter of William Adolphus Garrett, Sr. and Mary Frances Lewis Garrett. Virginia was a graduate of Walton High School, graduating with the Class of 1945. Many will remember her, and her famous hamburgers she made at her restaurant, The Cove Cafe in Ponce deLeon. She was an avid reader, and worked for a time as an aide in the Library at Walton Senior High School. Mrs. Moody was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ponce deLeon. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff at Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the expert, loving care that was extended to their mother and grandmother over the years she was a resident there.
Among survivors are her daughters, Anita Moody Schultz and husband Bob; Verna Moody Barley. Her son, Ralph B. Moody, Jr. and wife Darleen; Five grandchildren, Brian and wife Kelly, Charles, Audri and husband Ron, Travis and wife Susie and Ryan and wife Ashley. Eleven great grandchildren, her sister, Jeanette Lindsey and a special cousin, George Fox also survives.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 1 until 2 P.M. with the funeral beginning at 2:00 P.M. in First United Methodist Church of Ponce deLeon with Reverend Henry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Moody Family Plot in New Ponce deLeon Cemetery.
