Vicy Belcher Kaftan

Mrs. Vicy Kaftan, age 97 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in North Okaloosa Medical Center. She was born August 2, 1918 in Big Rock, Virginia the daughter of John and Mary Jane Ramey Belcher. One of the duty stations her husband was assigned to during his twenty-one year career with the Air Force was Eglin Air Force Base in the 50’s at which time she and her husband fell in love with Northwest Florida. After his retirement in 1969 they moved back to Iowa where her husband was in the insurance business, but in 1988 they returned to DeFuniak Springs, the area they had fallen in love with some thirty years earlier. She is predeceased by her husband, her daughters, Terry Lee Mickelson and Mary Jane Hatcher and a grandson, Tommy.

Among survivors are her children, Edward Kaftan, Jr. and wife Julia. Her daughters, Susan Smith and Shelby Whited and husband John and her grandchildren, Samatha, Veronica, Jennifer, Marcy, Joseph, Joshua and Pam. Her brother John Buster Belcher also survives.

Interment was in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
