Venola Bartlett Matthews

Mrs. Venola Bartlett Matthews, widow of the late Ulysses Victor Matthews, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in a Slidell, Louisiana Healthcare Facility. She was born May 20, 1930 in Geneva County, Alabama the daughter of Trudie Geraldean Bartlett. She married in 1948 and returned to DeFuniak Springs in 1961 where she made her home and raised her children. More recently she moved to Louisiana with her son and daughter-in-law. While she was a resident of DeFuniak Springs, she was employed in the textile industry. She loved quilting and had made many beautiful quilts.

Among survivors are her sons, Jim Matthews, Wade Matthews and wife Louise, Roger Matthews, Thomas Matthews and wife Cissy. Her daughter, Sue Redmon and husband Louis. Her sister, Fannie Emanuel and husband Nick. Her grandchildren, Terra, James and wife Sarah, Amanda and husband Craig and Beth and Crystal. Eleven great grandchildren also survive.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend David King officiating. Burial will follow in the Matthews Family Plot in Magnolia Cemetery.
