Biography

Mrs. Vena Fiedtkou Persaud, age 84 of Freeport passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 in Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. She was born October 14, 1923 in Morataro Demerara River, British Guyana the daughter of Cyril Rupert and Theresa Johanna Spencer Fiedtkou. Mrs. Persaud and her husband Sewah moved to Canada in 1972. Her husband maintained his privately owned business in British Guyana until his death. In 1985, when her daughter in Florala, Alabama became gravely ill, Mrs. Persaud moved to Florala to help her. After her daughter died, Vena moved for a brief time to Pensacola and then to Destin. She then moved in with her youngest son in Freeport. Mrs. Persaud was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved watching Wheel of Fortune. She also loved horse racing and never missed an opportunity to "go and watch them run". Her favorite pastime, however, was old movies, especially those staring Tyrone Power. As a matter of fact she had been appointed by the British Guyana government to the Movie Censor Board while living there. Elvis Presley was about as "racy" as she got and she always claimed to be his Number One fan. She is predeceased by her husband Sewah, her daughter Pam and husband Andrew and two grandchildren, Taryn and Feroze.

Among survivors are her children, Cyril and wife Susie, Kitty and husband Arjoon, Tinnie, Dennis, Gary and wife Mandy, Andre and wife Shelly and Owen.
Her sister Frances and her sister Miriam and husband Walter. Eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in Jerry Evans Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Persuad officiating.
