After a brief stint teaching in Selma, Alabama, she moved to DeFuniak Springs, where she would remain until 2021, and worked for Florida’s Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. But it was running L&H Automotive with her husband Ludy Huber where people could find her most over the years. Their house on Lake Stanley was also a popular spot for friends and family in the summers.
Tolise enjoyed painting, reading, sewing, knitting and working in her yard. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of DeFuniak Springs and participated in Ladies’ Circle Group. She was also very active, along with husband Ludy, in the German Club.
Tolise is preceded in death by her parents Marvin Steen and Ethel “Billie” Ward, by her first husband, Edgar Douglass, and her second husband, Ludy Huber. She is survived by her sisters, Carol Ward, Judy Bethea (John), and Linda Ward; sons, McSween (Amanda) and Tony (Natasha), and by daughter Julia Walter, with whom she lived in California for the past two and half years, and also by grandchildren Allie, Maggie, A.J., Jack and John.
Arrangements were entrusted to Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary in Lafayette, CA.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later time.
