Shirley Ann Bennett Lane

Mrs. Shirley Lane, age 76 of DeFuniak Springs passed away at the family residence.
Monday, November 16, 2015. She was born October 11, 1939 in Cedartown, Georgia the daughter of Lloyd Carl Bennett and Effie Mae Hammond Bennett.
Shirley married Scrammy Lane on August 4, 1956 when he returned home to Cedartown after a four year stent in the Navy. Shortly thereafter he joined the Air Force and together they travelled the world for sixteen years. One of those duty stations put Scrammy at Duke Field. They had moved from Fort Walton Beach to Mary Esther but wanting a “country education” for their youngest child David, they moved to DeFuniak Springs inn 1987 and David graduated from Walton Senior High School. Shirley loved the outdoors, fishing, tending her flowers and was known to enjoy an occasional “game of chance”. She loved Southern Gospel, she loved God, her husband, her children and grandchildren and her friends. She enjoyed a full life and will be greatly missed by her family.

Among survivors are her husband Julian Cornelius “Scrammy” Lane. Her children, Steve Lane and wife Terri; Sharon Highsmith and husband Stan; Joel Lane and wife Cheryl; Barry Lane and wife Dorothy; and David Lane and wife Jennifer. Ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her brother, Charles Bennett, her sister, Christine Turpin and husband Jim. Her brothers-in-law Billy Gerald Lane, Charles Johnny “Mickey” Lane and wife Connie. Her sister-in-law Peggy Joyce Moody also survives.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 5 until 7 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 10:15 A.M. in Barrancas National Cemetery, , Pensacola Naval Air Station, One Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida 32508 with Pastor Roger Peadro officiating.
