Royce M. "Poochie" Griffith

Mr. Royce M. “Poochie” Griffith, age 78 passed away suddenly in the late afternoon of December 24, 2013 at his family residence in Gaskin. He was born August 31, 1935 in Samson, Alabama, the son of Malcolm and Alice Ray Griffith. He is predeceasded by his parents and his daughter, Deborah Griffith Alford; his sisters, Bertha Mitchell, Eunice Conwill and Elsie Nobles and a brother, Howard Griffith. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law Gyps and mother-in-law Bessie Alford. Poochie was a member of Center Ridge United Methodist Church.

Among survivors are his wife of fifty-six years, Vonnette Alford Griffith, a daughter, Vicki Griffith of Brandon, Florida and his son, Philip Griffith and wife Beth of Baker. Five grandchildren, Zachary Alford, Jeff Hulfish, Lauren Griffith, Malcolm Griffith and Eli Griffith. His sister, Hilda McCall of Beauford, South Carolina, three brothers, John Griffith and wife Ina of Gaskin, James Griffith and wife Louise of Freeport and Roland Griffith and wife Ouida of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His brother and sister-in-law Robert and Joyce Wilkerson of Gaskin and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Those asked to serve as pallbearers will be Robert Wilkerson, Kevin Wilkerson, Talmadge Wood, Arnie Pryor, Jr., Joe Alberson and James Cook.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2013 from 6 until 8 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Reverend Rod Curry and Reverend Terry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Gaskin Cemetery.
