Rocky Gainey

Mr. Rocky Gainey, age 62 passed away unexpectdly at his residence in Freeport Wednesday, March 2, 2016. He was born May 18, 1953 in DeFuniak Springs, the son of John William “J.W.” Gainey and Mary Inez Rushing Gainey. He worked in the family timber business as a youth, after graduation from high school he lived in Houston, Texas where he was in the construction business. He was striken with Spinal Meningitis and was given only months to live. He beat the odds, however and was one of only two of the six cases to survive. He moved back to the area in the early eighties and had lived in Freeport for the past thirty or so years. Rocky was a man's man, enjoying a game of pool or horse shoes with his buddies at the local hot spots; he loved Nascar, fishing and country music. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

Among survivors are his daughter, Misty Mohr and husband Bert. His son Michael Gainey and wife Sarah. His mother, Inez Rushing Gainey; his brothers, Ronnie Gainey and wife Gloria, Rusty Gainey and wife Charlotte and Rex Gainey. His grandchildren, Chasity, Avery, Jace and Eli. He is also survive. by the mother of his children, Janice Floyd.

Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Stanley McKay, Gary Owens, Billy Turner, Kenneth Trelevin, Gary Senterfitt, Brent Hunbert, Jeff Cummings, Harvey McKay and Kevin Logan.
Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 1 until 2 P.M. in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1015 Pleasant Ridge Road, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, with the funeral beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Mahlon LeCroix officiating. Burial will follow in the Gainey Family Plot in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
