ROBERT MONROE "Snooky" THOMAS, JR.

October 7, 1953 — January 20, 2022

Robert Monroe "Snooky" Thomas, Jr. passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 20, 2022 in the Emergency Room of Healthmark Regional Medical Center.  He was born October 7, 1953 in DeFuniak Springs, the son of Robert Thomas, Sr. and Vivian Jordan Trahan.  A lifelong resident of the area, Snooky attended Walton County Schools and graduated with Walton Senior High School's Class of 1971 where he was active in all sports and excelled in basketball.  He was always interested in music which became a great part of his life as a drummer.  He was a glass cutter by trade but his love of music took him on many paths.  He was a member of several local bands, Southern Soul,  Sunset Sity (l ater known as Kicker) and most recently Off The Wall Band. Because of his expertise as a drummer Snooky landed a job with Carnival Cruise Lines in the entertainment business.  All who knew Snooky, family, friends, former classmates, co-workers, co-band members knew him as a man full of life, full of joy and ready to help anyone as much as he could.  Family members say Snooky was excellent on the grill and only the very bravest would challenge him to a game of horseshoes.  The early 70's, especially in the Deep South were turbulent times in America but within the small community that Walton County is of friends and neighbors "race" was not the predominate factor that determined friendships;  Snooky saw people for who they were and people saw Snooky for he was and what they saw, they liked and he did the same.

Among survivors are Snooky's wife, Sandra Marie Lewis Johnson Thomas, his son, Robert Monroe Thomas, III and wife Gina and grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 2 until 6 P.M. in the DeFuniak Springs Community Center, 361 North 10th Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433.    Friends and family may go on line to view obituaries, offer condolences and sign the guest register at jerryevansfuneralhome.com
