Mr. Robert Lee Figgins, age 87, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, in a Crestview Healthcare Facility. He was born June 28, 1930, in Lyons, Indiana, the son of Elihu Knox Figgins and Velma Ruby Robinson Figgins of Caruthersville, Missouri. After completing high school, Robert joined the United States Air Force where he served his country twenty years including tours in Korea and Vietnam. and achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. After retirement from the military, he began a career working with the Lake County Tax Collector’s Office, a position he would hold for another twenty odd years. During this time Robert pursued his interest in art and culture and used his artistic ability in creating beautiful pastels and charcoal renderings. His love of nature was evident in his ability to grow orchids and bonsai trees. His interests were many; he was an avid reader of nonfiction and was a writer himself often writing poetry. When ill health prevailed, Robert moved to DeFuniak Springs to be close to his daughters. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tavares, Florida. He is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Joyce, who passed away in 1978, and his second wife, Gloria; his grandson Timothy Robert Dolan and his sister Helen Meek.
Among survivors are his daughters, Lou Ann Johnson and husband Ralph, Jo Dolan and husband Lewis; granddaughters, Sarah Liana and Jessie Emily; his step children, Don Wright and wife Linda , Ben Wright and wife Cindy and step grandson Will; his sisters Hazel Manley and Debra Mitchell; his brothers John Figgins and Chris Figgins and wife Betty.
Private family services will be held in Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis, Florida at a later date.
