Richard “Dick” Lowery passed away on March 5, 2025 at the age of 84 years old with his loving wife Janette and daughters Wyndy Crozier and Kelly Lowery by his side. Born on August 8, 1940 in Clearwater, Florida to Michael Lee and Laura Mae Lowery, Dick had been a resident of Darlington for the last twenty-five years. Prior to living in Darlington, Dick and his family moved to many cities in Florida – relocating as his work moved.
Dick worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin. He also enjoyed flying his plane as a private pilot and traveling the USA. He was a member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge 225 and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 487, and he was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Army.
When he wasn’t working, he loved to repair or restore cars, trucks, tractors, and he was always happy to share his knowledge with anyone wanted to learn. Cooking and serving food was another passion of his. Whether smoking ribs, chicken, pork butts, making his own barbeque sauce, or serving up his special biscuits for breakfast, creating and sharing food with those he loved brought him great joy. He rarely passed up an opportunity to cook for his family, friends, or local events. Listening to music was also something he greatly enjoyed. Though he listened to tunes from all different genres, his favorite was the music of the 50’s and 60’s. He could never hide out in his man-shed because he kept the music blaring, and he was singing along almost as loudly. He will be so greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He adored his wife, Janette, and was incredibly proud that they had been happily married for 66 years. He loved his family dearly and is survived by two daughters, Wyndy Crozier and Kelly Lowery, grandchildren Nicole Crozier (Mike), Benjamin Nathaniel Jones (Jordan), Joe Crozier (Madison), and great grandsons, Samuel Ganote and Henry Jones. He also leaves behind his sister Linda Jones, son-in-law, Jack Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving daughter Kimberlyn Thomas and son-in-law Joseph Crozier, as well as his brother Eugene Lowery and mother and father, Laura Mae and Mike Lowery.
Dick was Lutheran by Faith and attended First Lutheran Church in Florala, AL. The Memorial/Celebration of his life will be at McDonald Family Funeral Home on April 5, 2025 with visitation at 11 a.m. and Funeral Service at 12 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Sean Ballard of First Lutheran Church in Florala officiating.
