Rebecca Elaine Currington was born in Esto, Florida on May 19, 1944 to Gillis and Annie Bracewell. She spent her whole life in the area that she loved, calling Esto, Darlington, Red Bay, and Valparaiso home. She attended Darlington School, graduated from Walton Sr High and also went to Okaloosa-Walton Community College. Elaine passed away on June 23, 2026.
Elaine married her husband, Marvin, on December 23, 1961, and she would say her life truly began then. He was the love of her life and she was his. From visiting the mountains far away to fishing and floating on the bay right near home, they loved the life they lived together. A common occurrence on the bay was for Marvin to tie Elaine’s float around his waist while he waded and tossed his cast net. She claimed he pulled her behind him clear from one end of the Choctawhatchee Bay to the other!
Elaine also enjoyed time spent gardening and growing flowers, and any opportunity to be with babies and children was something she treasured as well. When God did not bless her with children of her own, she fulfilled her mothering desire by being like a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She loved her family deeply.
Elaine is survived by two sisters Evelyn Bracewell Ezell and Louise Bracewell Jinright, brother Ralph Bracewell, brothers-in-law James Currington (Ellen), Hank Currington, Bob Currington, and Johnny Currington (Kellie), and sisters-in-law Shelia Currington and Joyce Currington. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Marvin D Currington, parents Curtis Gillis Bracewell and Annie Elizabeth Burdick, brothers Lamar Bracewell (Inez), Lavon Bracewell, Manuel Bracewell (Shirley), GB Bracewell, and Floyd Bracewell, sisters Lois Bracewell Duval, Eloise Bracewell Weeks, father-in-law John Currington and mother-in-law Lorene Currington, brothers-in-law Ivan Currington (Sue), Malone Currington, Ronald Currington, and sisters-in-law Audrey (Terry) Gainey and Lisa Currington.
While she will be remembered as a friendly, funny, loving, kind, beautiful, and wonderful person, it will also be sweetly remembered that she was fiercely protective of her loved ones. Elaine was kind and easy-going, but if anyone messed with her loved ones, especially the children, she was quick to defend and protect.
She will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have her in their life.
