OUIDA FAY THOMPSON GRIFFITH

June 13, 1932 — January 4, 2022

Mrs. Ouida Griffith, longtime resident of DeFuniak Springs passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She was born June 13, 1932 in DeFuniak Springs, the daughter of Jessie Lee Thompson and Lillie Lee Prater Thompson.    After graduation from  high school, Ouida was employed with Service Drugs .  She and Roland were married in 1951 and moved to Florala, Alabama where she worked at Franklin-Ferguson Company and Roland worked first at the tung mill and later with Cannon Plymouth Dodge. In 1955 when Roland found a position with the Florida National Guard and Civil Service , a career that would span some 33 years, they moved back to DeFuniak Springs.  Many will remember Ouida in her employment with South Eastern Telephone (later known as Centel ).  In 1982 Roland was sent to Germany and Ouida and the family went along, and lived in Germany for six years (1982-1988).  In 1989 he went to Turkey.  After 20 years with the phone company, Ouida retired and became the Southern Homemaker she was destined to be. " A place for everything and everything in its place"....even in the garage; Roland was not allowed to wear shoes, even in the garage.  Ouida did all of the things true Southern ladies always did, quilting, playing bridge, afternoon tea (really coffee) with the girls, working in her flower beds, or at least supervising Roland as he worked in the flower beds.  Ouida's health began to decline and she and Roland decided to move to Tulsa to be close to Rhonda.  On the afternoon of Tuesday,  January 4th, Ouida won her battle against earthly disease and death and took on a new body of perfection as she entered life eternal. She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law Janie, her siblings, Lloyd, Cortez, Nell and Bob; her brothers-in-law Howard, Tip and Poochie and her sisters-in-law Hilda, Elsie, Bertha and Eunice.

Among survivors are her husband, Roland Griffith, their son, Rod Griffith and Patsy Harris , their daughter Rhonda Heineman and husband Tony,   their grandchildren Cara Griffith and  Jason Levit, ,  Sara Rae Williams and Wes, Alison Mae Heineman  and Heidi Ray Marshall.  Five great grandchildren and her brother in law, John Griffith and wife Ina and her sister-in-law Vonette Griffith and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A  time of visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 1 until 2 P.M. in First United Methodist Church, 88 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435 with the service beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Francis Turner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Griffith Family Plot in Cluster Springs, Cemetery.  The family has requested that flowers be omitted, however, memorials may be made in Ouida Griffith's memory to First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs.
