Nelson Eugene Jones

Nelson Eugene Jones, 88, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Lutz, Florida. He was born on August 17, 1938, and grew up in Cameron, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Paul Jones and Hazel Lohr.

Nelson married the love of his life, Faye Hicks, in Tallahassee, Florida. Together, they shared 51 years of marriage.

Nelson is survived by his son, David; daughter-in-law, Denise; grandchildren, Zachary and Gabrielle; and brother, Roger Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, and his brother, Wayne-Allen Jones.

Nelson was an avid football fan. His favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Florida State Seminoles. He was a proud member of the Cameron High School Dragons' undefeated 1956 football team. In 1957, he volunteered to serve in the United States Air Force.

Above all, Nelson greatly loved his family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
