Melvin "Doug" King

July 29, 1945 — February 22, 2024

Santa Rosa Beach

Melvin Douglas King passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024.  Born July 29, 1945 in Hartburg, Texas to parents Charlie and Plennie King, Doug spent all of his childhood in Texas and graduated from Deweyville High School.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Theology and was an ordained minister. He was a pastor and traveling minister with his wife for many years. Vision Church at Christian International in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida was his home church after settling in Santa Rosa Beach Florida in the 1990’s. He loved Jesus with all of his heart and had the heart of David.

Doug was an accomplished builder by trade. In 1997, he built his own house, and he built one for his daughter in 1998.  His family does not remember a time when he was not busy building something for someone.  His grandchildren are forever blessed with the memories of building projects completed with him – making their own bed frames, designing a play yard complete with ½ a basketball court and gymnastic bars, creating Barbie houses, and many more special things.

Doug was full of love.  He loved time with his family, time with family dogs, Rainbow and Boni, and time serving others.  Anything his family needed he provided with love.  He absolutely adored his grandchildren and took advantage of every opportunity to spoil them.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charlie E. King and Plennie A. King, daughter Crystal Elaine King, nephew Mark Billiott, sister-in-law Linda King, and great-great niece Maribelle Sims.

Doug leaves behind his wife, Marilyn King, daughter Tonya King (Wayne Williamson), brothers C A King and Gene King (Melodie), sister Helen, Huskey (Raymond), grandchildren Caleb King-Williamson, Zane King-Williamson (Macy), and Crystal Byrd (Hayden), great grandchild “Baby Byrd” (due in 2024).  Doug is also survived by nephews and nieces, (King side) Kim Vandever (Steven), Craig Huskey (Kristi), Shay Huskey (Niko), Lydia Wisnoski, Jennifer King, and Jason King (Kellie), great nieces, Rachel, Rori, Phoebe Vandever, Ray, Ryan Huskey, Kenzie Sims (Jonathan), Harlie King, Jad, and Jenna and great-great nephew Levi Sims. Plus, many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews on the Hixon side.
