MARY LOU COWMAN HILGENBERG

October 1, 1935 — February 24, 2022

Mrs. Mary Lou Hilgenberg, age 86 of Panama City Beach passed away at her residence Thursday, February 24, 2022.  She was born October 1, 1935 in Greenfield, Ohio the daughter of Marcus Dwier Cowman and Gladys Irene Mosseburger Cowman.  She received her high school diploma from American School in Chicago, Illinois.  Mary worked many years in management with Nugget Oil Company.  After retirement she moved into the home she and her husband had bought as their retirement home in Panama City Beach.  Those who knew Mary knew her as a fiercely independent woman, completely able to take care of herself.  She loved spending time in the kitchen, with coffee at the ready, creating delicious meals for her family and friends.  The most requested dish was her homemade noodles.  She also enjoyed being outdoors so most of her weekends were spent in her garden.  She is predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Carl Ray Hilgenberg, Sr., her father and mother. her brother Jimmy Cowman and her sister Jean Ann Mershon.    Mary’s family appreciates the care and attention provided by Emerald Coast Hospice, especially to Bridget who provided loving care.

Among survivors are her daughter Becky Horne and husband Dusty, her sons, Carl Ray Hilgenberg, Jr. and wife Bridget and Kenneth Campbell and wife Brenda.  Five grandchildren, Holly Dunnington and husband Seth, Kara Whitehead and husband Drew, Scott Campbell and wife Tina, Kelly Barkman and Todd Jenkins and wife Ashlyn.  Seven great grandchildren, Milly Clare, Anna Jeanette, Jenna, Ella, Maya, Charleigh and Brexlee.  Her sister-in-law Edna Cowman also survives.

A private family viewing took place on Saturday, February 27, 2022 in Jerry Evans Funeral Home.  Mary was laid to rest beside her husband in Magnolia Cemetery, Monday, February 28, 2022.  The family plans a get-together when all
