Biography

Mrs. Mary Carolyn Warren Murray, age 89 of Defuniak Springs passed away peacefully Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Sacred Heart at The Emerald Coast. She was born January 16, 1920 in Marianna, Florida the daughter of Marvel Orin Warren, Sr. and Sarah Gertrude Simmons Warren. She moved with her family to DeFuniak Springs and graduated from Walton High School with the Class of 1937. She attended Florida State College for Women, graduating in 1941 with a bachelors in commerce. Mary Carolyn worked at Eglin Air Force Base during World War II and later worked in Pensacola in social services from 1967 until 1978. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, stitchery, her morning circle and walking around the lake yard. She always had a friendly smile and enjoyed socializing with neighbors and friends and especially had a soft spot for children. Mary Carolyn was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband and her brothers Marvel O. “Buddy” Warren and Dan Warren.

Among survivors are her son, Burton Murray and wife Jackie of DeFuniak Springs. Grandsons, Max Murray of Pleasanton, California and Alex Murray of Santa Barbara.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. Visitation will be from 10:00A.M. until 11:00A.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Rob West officiating. Private family burial will be held in Magnolia Cemetery
