Mary Lewis Henderson

Mrs. Mary Henderson, age 70 of DeFuniak Springs passed away at the family residence Sunday morning, June 29, 2014 with her husband and her son by her side. She was born February 16, 1944 in Panama City, Florida the daughter of Stanley and Ester Wilson Proctor Lewis. After completing college at Louisiana Tech and receiving her Master’s Degree from Southern Miss she worked in DeFuniak Springs, with the Walton County Board of Education as the girls coach at Maude Saunder’s Elementary for over 40 years. Mary loved working in her yard and growing flowers and vegetables. Back in the day, she was a big fan of the television series, Dallas and Falcon Crest, never missing an episode. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

Among survivors are her husband Eric C. Henderson. Her son, Wesley L. Wilkerson and wife Angela. Granddaughters, Samantha K. Wilkerson and Kristina G. Wilkerson. Her brother, Stanley X. Lewis, Jr. Her nieces, Melissa Kersting and husband Michael and Melanie Dickerson and husband Josh. Her mother-in-law, Geraldine W. Henderson, her sisters-in-law Charlotte Hofstetter and Ann Henderson and her brother-in-law Larrid Henderson.

Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Jerry Cosson, Rusty Gainey, Ronnie Gainey, Lyvonne McMillian, David Thomas, Johnny Foxhall and V.T. Thompson. Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 10 until 11 A.M. in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the funeral beginning at 11:00 A.M. in the church with Reverend Phil McMillian officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
