Margaret Ann Mantey Young

December 18, 1923 — October 4, 2016

Mrs. Margaret Ann Mantey Young, age 92 passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Superior Residences of Niceville. She was born December 18, 1923 in Sandusky, Ohio the daughter of Sylvester Edward Mantey and Lucille Francis Smith Mantey. She moved frequently with her husband Norm during their life together. They started in Long Beach, California, and moved to Ponce deLeon in 1968 when they purchased forty acres of land which they farmed for twenty years until retirement. They also lived in Kingman, Arizona, and Bellevue, Ohio before returning to Defuniak Springs in 1997. Margaret was an avid seamstress and homemaker. Many of the gifts she has given to people over the years include her stitching or crocheting handiwork. She enjoyed a challenging game of scrabble with family whenever she would visit. Her appreciation for the simple pleasures of life made her a joy to be around. Often in her travel through the country side she would express how she could see the beauty in a plowed field or the fall change of colors. Mrs. Young is predeceased by her husband Norman Henry Young who passed away November 4, 2008. She was an active member of Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church until ill health prevailed. She is predeceased by her husband, her sister, Mary Lauber and her brothers, James and Edward Mantey.

Among survivors are her sister Enid Rose Scheck, her sister-in-law Rosemary Mantey and her loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church with Reverend Rick Dawson officiating.
