Lewis Thorn, Sr

Lewis Edwin Thorn, Sr. age 76 passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 at his home in New Harmony, Florida with his loving family by his side. Mr. Thorn was predeceased by his father Ben L. Thorn and Mother, Katie Belle McCallum Thorn. Edwin was born September 12, 1932 in New Harmony, Florida. He worked in construction as a foreman for Martin-McClellan Construction Company until the late 1960’s when he started his own company, Thorn Cabinet Shop. His legacy of making beautiful cabinets still continues with his son and two of his grandsons. He was ordained as a deacon on August 13, 1961, at New Harmony Baptist Church (the church his Father helped found). He was well known throughout the community for his love of God, his family and his Church. Edwin loved to garden so he could share the harvest with his family and friends and he always enjoyed friends stopping by for a good conversation. The family would like to express a special thanks to all the doctors and hospice personnel who helped make his final days more comfortable.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Twinette; daughters Wynona Geoghagan of Woodstock, GA, Melinda Allen of Troy, AL., Melissa (Bill) Burnett of Pensacola, and Pamela (Wayne) Breedlove of New Harmony; his son Lewis E. (Lori) Thorn, Jr. of New Harmony; seven grandchildren, Brad (Brandi), Joanna, Jennifer, Susan (Matt), Michael (Ashley), Ben and Leah; five great grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Jadyn, Lauren and Hayden; five sisters, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the New Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, 2281 County Highway 2A, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433 or Covenant Hospice, 370 Redstone Avenue, Crestview, Florida 32536. Visitation will be Monday, September 29, 2008 from 6 until 8 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 30, 3008 at 10:00 A.M. in New Harmony Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Camp and Reverend Jerry Chumley officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
