Biography

Mr. Jimmie Lee Wilkerson, age 77 of Glendale passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born December 2, 1934 in Glendale, the son of Keesley and Ethelene Chesser Wilkerson. After attending Glendale School, Jimmie lived with his parents and helped in the operation of their family farm. Jimmie had a love of nature and of people. He always enjoyed being outside and loved going fishing; it is told that he had a premonition of the moment a bass was going to hit the lure or bait. Jimmie was a client of arc and considered it his home away from home. He looked forward each day in getting to go and be with his arc family and he and his counterpart, J C Spears spent many happy hours playing checkers. Jimmie knew all of the clients by name and loved each of them with the pure, nonjudgemental love that only a person with a heart like his would be capable of doing. On Thursday morning, March 1, 2012 Jimmie moved to a place where he thinks with perfect clarity and a place where the purity of his love for others is commonplace. He is predeceased by his parents and a sister, Kaylene who passed way in 1940.

Among survivors are his brother, Robert "Bob" Wilkerson and wife Lovelle. His sister Linda Yates and three nieces and nephews.

In leiu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jimmie Lee Wilkerson's memory to arc, 195 Heather Lane, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in Gum Creek Cemetery with Dr. Mark Rathel officiating. Burial will be in the Wilkerson Family Plot in Gum Creek Cemetery.
