Biography

Mrs. Jewell Rachels Wesley, age 93 of DeFuniak Springs passed away in Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Thursday night , August 11, 2011, after a lingering illness. She was born in New Brockton, Alabama and moved to the Glendale Community of Walton County in 1936. She finished her senior year at Walton High School graduating with the Class of 1936. She was very active in her husband’s business, Pure Oil Distributor and was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was a fifty year member of the DeFuniak Springs Chapter # 115 of the Order of Eastern Star. She is preceded in death by her parents J. W. and Maude Drinkard Rachels, her husband, L.C.B. (Billy) Wesley, her sister, Sarah Rachels Wesley, brothers Sam Rachels and Buford Rachels and two infant sons.

Survivors include her son, James W. “Jim” Wesley of Mobile. Her granddaughter, Kimberly A. Wesley Hubbard and great granddaughter Grace Isabella Hubbard of Mobile. Nieces, Hope Rachels, Karen Medley, Nancy Currie and Beth Tucker and husband Martin; nephew, Sammy Rachels and wife Pia plus numerous great nieces and nephews. Her daughter-in-law Brenda Wesley also survives.

Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Jewell Wesley’s memory to the Alzheimers Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60601. The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church from 9 until 11A.M. Monday, August 15, 2011 with the service beginning at 11:00 A.M. in the church with Reverend Rob West and Dr. Larry Teasley officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
