Jeremy Jerald Carter lived a good life in the Red Bay Community. He was born in Panama City, FL on April 29, 1981 and grew up in Walton County - a graduate of Walton High School and he graduated from the FL State Corrections Academy at Okaloosa-Walton Community College. He then began his career with the Walton County Correctional Institution. He transferred to the Holmes County Correctional facility when he was promoted to Sargent and remained with the FL State Department of Corrections for 20 years of which he was extremely proud. He was happy to call the area ‘home’ for all of his years. After a long-fought illness, Jeremy passed away on May 28, 2026.

Jeremy leaves behind his wife, Tanya Carter, mother Jeanne Williamson Carter, father Sidney Carter, brothers Keith Carter (Kathy) and Brian Carter (Linda), stepson Dalton Chamberlain, and step-grandson Mason VanHorn. He also leaves behind special Uncle George Carter and special Aunt Motez Carter.

He is preceded in death by stepson Dustin Manning, mother-in-law Annie Bell Owens, his maternal grandmother Bernice Williamson, paternal grandmother Ada Carter Ammons and step-grandfather Aubrey (Shorty) Ammons, and very dear friend and surrogate in Grandmother, A.D. (Gramp) Mercer.

Jeremy also was an avid gun and weapons collector - a great outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed and loved his pets, Sadie, Duke and Chickie. Jeremy never met an animal he didn't love, and they all loved him back.

Jeremy was very proud of his career and was a hard-working, honest, and dedicated employee who was extremely proud to have a great relationship with his fellow co-workers.

He will be remembered for his sincere kindness, unwavering love, upstanding integrity, and his deep love for his family.

Though his passing comes way too early in his life, family and friends find comfort in knowing he is no longer having to deal with the incredible challenges his illness caused.

The family has requested, since Jeremy loved animals, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Walton County Animal Shelter in DeFuniak Springs, FL in his memory.
