Elizabeth S. Campbell, 74, of Niceville, Florida, passed away on February 14, 2026. Her life formed a remarkable arc of service - from the example set by her physician parents to the institutions she helped build and the family she lovingly guided.

Born into a household defined by care for others, Elizabeth was the daughter of Dr. Richard H. Schulz and Dr. Sarah M. Schulz of Marianna, Florida and had four sisters and three brothers. For more than four decades, her father delivered over 3,000 babies while her mother cared for generations of children as a pediatrician. Service was not an abstract ideal in the Schulz home; it was daily practice. Elizabeth carried that inheritance forward in her own distinct and lasting ways.

In 1973, at just 22 years old, Elizabeth helped establish Walton County’s first mental health clinic. What began as a team of two operating out of a single room at DeFuniak Springs City Hall grew into Chautauqua Offices of Psychotherapy and Evaluation (COPE), now a comprehensive regional provider of mental health, substance abuse, residential, and crisis services serving thousands annually. Elizabeth earned master’s degrees in psychology and health education while raising a young family, and she dedicated 25 years to ensuring that rural Northwest Florida had access to professional mental health care.

She understood that care must also be preventative. Under her leadership, initiatives such as the STAR program (Students Taking Active Responsibility) were developed to provide middle-school students with education and early intervention around substance use and decision-making - programs that continue today.

Her belief in mind-body wellness led her and her husband, William “Bill” O. Campbell III, to co-found the Nautilus Fitness Center of DeFuniak Springs in 1980. Elizabeth saw clearly the connection between physical vitality and mental well-being, reinforcing her conviction that thriving communities require both.

In 1994, Elizabeth and Bill founded McCaskill & Company Fine Jewelry. Beginning modestly and expanding into a flagship showroom along Highway 98, the company grew into one of the nation’s leading independent jewelers. When Elizabeth joined full time in 1999, she became the strategic and cultural foundation of the business. She cultivated excellence not only in operations and branding, but in the way customers were welcomed and remembered. Her vision, courage, and unwavering dedication shaped not only the company, but her associates personally. Elizabeth led with grace and determination while balancing strength with compassion, and she never lost sight of what mattered most: people.

McCaskill & Company supported more than 50 charitable organizations over three decades; an extension of Elizabeth’s enduring belief that success carries responsibility to strengthen those in need in our local community.

Elizabeth also served ten years on the Board of Trustees of Okaloosa-Walton Community College, including the position of Board Chair. During her tenure, the college transitioned into a four-year institution, expanding opportunity for thousands of students. Education, like health, was, to her, a generational investment.

Throughout each chapter - mental health, wellness, entrepreneurship, governance - a consistent thread ran through Elizabeth’s life: care for people. She helped families in crisis, guided students toward healthier choices, strengthened educational access for the next generation, celebrated clients marking life milestones, and exuded strength in settling for nothing less than excellence.

Elizabeth Campbell’s life reminds us that service is not a single act but a sustained commitment. Through her institutions, her leadership, and her family, that commitment endures.

She is survived by her husband Bill; her children Richard Campbell (Brandi), William Campbell (Ashly), and Carolyn Brigman (Todd); and nine grandchildren who were her greatest joy. She also has her seven brothers and sisters: Edie Thompson, Carrie Keith, William Schulz, Louise Bruner, Richard Schulz, Gretchen Schulz, and Kenneth Schulz.

She will always be remembered as a guiding light - her family’s North Star.

In remembrance of Elizabeth, donations can be made to a local charity close to your heart. She enjoyed supporting the many impactful charities of our local community.
