Mr. Edward (Ed) Armbruster, age 89 passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 in Healthmark Regional Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1932 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania the son of Edward John Armbruster and Catherine L. Conrad Armbruster. He graduated from Pottsville Catholic High School and later completed his AA Degree after joining the United States Air Force. Edward was a retired real estate broker/owner of Armbruster Realty, Inc. from 1979 until 1999. He was a former Walton County Commissioner appointed by Governor Martinez and ran for U. S. Representative, District 1 with the endorsement of President Reagan in 1988. He was former Chairman of Walton County Red Cross, 1989-1994, former President of Walton County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Walton County Republican Party and served as Florida State CCPR Director. He was also past Commander of VFW Post 4473 and Judge Advocate for District 1 of VFW and was a life member of VFW, Am Vets, DAV and American Legion. He founded Almarante Volunteer Fire Department and served as President for three years. He retired from the US Air Force serving in the German Occupation, Korea during the Pueblo Capture and Vietnam. Among his many awards was the Bronze Star in Vietnam. Edward and his wife Rosemary were practicing Catholics throughout their lives.
Among survivors are his children, Patricia Epperson and husband Gary, Colleen Armbruster, Michael Armbruster and Catherine Price. His Grandchildren, Anthony Epperson, Natasha Spence, Gabrielle Nelson, Andrea Skarbecki, Michel Armbruster and Kacey Kemp. 10 Great Grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren also surrive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed Armbruster’s memory to a local organization he founded, Caring and Sharing of DeFuniak Springs. A time of visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 4 until 6 in the evening in Jerry Evans Chapel. Military Graveside Services will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 AT 10:00 A.M. in Barrancas National Cemetery with Reverend Richard Dawson officiating. Ed will be laid to rest with his wife Rosemary in Barrancas.
