Edna Bell Gilley Simmons

Mrs. Edna Simmons, age 94 passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. She was born May 14, 1918 in Hartford, Alabama the daughter of Lee and Fannie Donaldson Gilley. She worked many years as a dietician with the Okaloosa Board of Education. Edna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bennie Simmons, her sons, Bobby Eugene Simmons and Billie Lee Simmons. Her brother, Leonard Gilley,, her sisters, Ruby Bodiford, Marie Geohagan and Annie Lou Williams and her son-in-law Dick Jones.

Among survivors are her children, Royce Simmons and wife Betty; Helen Jones; Tom Simmons and wife Genette, Johnny Simmons and wife Donna, and her daughter-in-law Sarah Simmons. Her sister, Doris Hutchinson, thirteen grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren also survive.

Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Edna Simmons memory to the American Cancer Society. A time of visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 6 until 8 P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Minister Gerald McKee officiating. Burial will follow in the Simmons Family Plot in Gaskin Baptist Church Cemetery.
