Biography

Mr. Doyle Wayne Coffey, age 55 of the New Harmony Community of Walton County passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 in Chautauqua Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born July 2, 1954 in Brewton, Alabama the son of Harvey B. and Ouida Davidson Coffey. He moved with his family at age 10 to the New Harmony Community when they bought out Sam Campbell’s Store, changing the name to Coffey’s Store, a long time area landmark. Doyle attended Walton High School, graduating with the Class of 1972. While a student he worked with local parts store through the DCT program. As an adult he worked in the construction field and later he became a millwright. He loved fishing and the outdoors and had a passion for growing things; plants, flowers, anything that grew in soil. He also loved cooking on the grill and had many family famous “secret” recipes. Doyle was part of the fellowship of Liberty Assembly of God Church. He was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2008, a well fought battle he lost late Friday night.

Among survivor are his mother, Ouida Coffey, his daughter, Jessica Lloyd and husband Billy. His stepson Roger Dale Slaughter and wife Kelly. His sisters, Joyce Farmer and husband Wade and Carrol Shaw and husband Johnnie. His brothers, Kenneth Coffey and Gregory Coffey and wife Penny. The mother of his children, Debbie Webb; eight grandchildren, Michael, Austin, Montana, Keegan, Aaron, Dylan, Cierra and Collin and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to funeral time. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 15, 2010 in Jerry Evans Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Cain and Brother George Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Community Cemetery.
