Dorothy “Dot” Johnson passed away in Sarasota, Florida on August 3, 2024. Dot was born on August 8, 1947, to parents Eddie Lee and Mary Lou Drake. She attended school at Walton County High and received a degree from Okaloosa Walton Junior College. She was a longtime member at East Baptist Church in DeFuniak Springs, and she loved her church family dearly. Dot was also military spouse and spent many years serving our country through supporting her husband.
Preceded in death by her husband Frederick J. Johnson, Dot is survived by daughters Danielle Sladky (Jeff), Shana Wills (Francisco), grandchildren Zachary and Ariel Wills and Stella and Eva Sladky, and sister-in-law Christine Johnson. She also leaves behind many loving cousins, including David Earl Drake (Frankie), John and Kitty Grice.
Dot loved many things. She was an adoring mother and grandmother, and she loved spending time with family and friends. Her dear ones will always cherish memories of times spent together. Traveling, trips to the beach, summer visits, hot tea during long NY winters, and weekend shopping trips are at the top of the list of favorite memories. Dot had a bug for traveling and she embraced it with trips to Ireland, Alaska, and many other US states. She was an avid animal lover, and she rescued several animals over the years. She had a particular love for Dachshunds and rescued two named Annie and Stewie - her four-legged babies were extra special to her. Those who knew Dot knew of her extensive and esteemed collection of Doxie and cow figurines! She loved to decorate. Making her home holiday ready was something she greatly enjoyed, and she was always eager to help decorate for any and all church functions as well. Dot loved the years she spent working at the Chautauqua nursing home, and she cherished the countless loving residents and staff members she spent time with.
Dot would want to be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and her family and friends will remember her exactly as such.
