Diane Kay Wood

April 4, 1948 — August 11, 2025

DeFuniak Springs

Diane Kay Wood was born on April 4, 1948 in Shelby, Michigan to parents Neil Vincent Skinner and Mildred Luella Skinner, and she passed away on August 11, 2025 in Destin, Florida. Diane graduated from Shelby High School in Michigan and spent some time living in Indiana before calling Florida home. She spent the last years of her life living in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. She was a member of First United Methodist and, most recently, Grace Church.

Though Diane would spend time doing her hobbies and loving on her dog Daisy Mae, nothing was more important to her than her family, and she took advantage of every opportunity to make sure they all knew it. She enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, sewing, reading and baking - but time with family was always her absolute favorite way to spend time.

Diane leaves behind a large and loving family. Her husband, Philip Davison Wood, along with her children Victoria Foster (Dennis), Tamara Derry, Mary Marshall (Eric), Jonathan Smeenk (Stacy), Joseph Smeenk (Sondra), and David Smeenk. Her beloved grandchildren and great-children are: Victoria and Dennis’ children Bryson Foster, Tori and Bobby Taylor with Maverick and Stella, Anneleisa and Mikey Hale with Xavier and Kyler, and Brady Foster; Tamara’s children Patrick and Taheena Smeenk with Kadien and Zaley and Madeline Brumley; Mary and Eric’s children Ryan and Emily Smith with Hazel, Isabelle, and Jasper, Elia and Jeremy Johnson with Quinn, Makayla and Gavin Fields, Haylie Marshall, and Kali Marshall; Jonathan and Stacy’s children Michael and Britney Smeenk with Uvince, Andrew Smeenk, William Kingham, Megan Kingham, Matthew Kingham, and Samantha Kingham; and David Smeenk’s children with Kennedy, Tarquin, Lila, Gabrielle, and Viktor. She also leaves behind sisters Sally Ann Walker (Ken) and family, Thelma Jane Hallack (Duane) and family, Ellen Sue Johnston (Allen) and family, and Joan Lavanway’s (Richard) family, along with many more extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents Neil Vincent Skinner and Mildred Luella Skinner and sister, Joan Adele Lavanway.

Memories of Diane will be treasured for many years to come by those who were blessed to get to know her as a wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and/or friend, and she succeeded in passing along the importance of family and of loving family well.
