Diane Eddy Huggins passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025. Born on May 9, 1944, in Decatur, Alabama, Diane was the beloved daughter of Rev. William B. Eddy and Ruby Eddy. She moved to DeFuniak Springs in 1970, where she built not only a successful career but a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and community.
Diane was a trailblazer in local real estate, serving as the Broker/Owner of ERA Great South Realty. Beyond her professional success, she gave deeply of her time and talents, serving as Past Chairman of the Board of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties, and Past President of the COPE Center Mental Health Board of Directors. Her leadership reflected her heart for people and her unwavering belief in making her community stronger.
A devoted member of Grace Church, Diane’s love for the Lord was evident in everything she did. She led children’s choirs, women’s ministries, and lifted countless hearts through her powerful singing voice, a gift she used to worship God and bring joy to others throughout her life. Her cheerful spirit, infectious laugh, and radiant presence made her the brightest light in every room she entered. Hosting was her love language. She found joy in bringing people together over a meal and a beautifully set table, creating memories that will be retold for years by those blessed enough to sit at it.
Diane’s greatest joy, however, came from her family. She was preceded in death by her husband and “Knight in Shining Armour”, Jack Earl Huggins, with whom she shared 42 wonderful years filled with laughter, love, and adventure. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Rev. William B. Eddy and Ruby Eddy.
She is survived by her loving sons Jimmy Burgess (Tasha) and Jason Burgess (Alicia); her cherished stepchildren Jack Huggins Jr. (Cindy) and Gay Wolff (Kurtis); and her adored grandchildren Bianca Huggins Kucklick, Cameron Huggins Spaulding (Daron), Tristan Wolff, Austin Wolff, Libby Burgess Simmons (Noah), Logan Burgess Escobar (Noah), Jake Burgess (Morgan), Drew Burgess, Fisher Burgess, and Emily Ann Burgess. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Brooklyn Kucklick, Ciara Spaulding, and Freya Spaulding.
She is also survived by her loving brothers Jerry Eddy (Julie) and Joe Eddy, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Her legacy will live on in the generations to come.
