Derek Allen Hensley

Mr. Derek Allen Hensley, age 37 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at the family residence. He was born July 13, 1978 in Dearborn, Michigan, the son of David Lee Hensley and Karon Samuel Hensley. As a youth he

moved with his family to Freeport where Derek attended Walton County Schools graduating with Freeport’s Class of 1996. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served a lengthy tour of duty in Japan. While stationed in Japan he met and married his wife Lacretia on June 24, 2002. After his tour of duty ended he and Lacretia and the kids moved back to DeFuniak Springs where Derek took a position as a facilities maintenance engineer in condominiums in the South End a position he held until ill health prevailed. Derek loved motors and engines and would tinker for hours with any machine that had moving parts.

Among survivors are his wife, Lacretia Ann Hensley. His children, Ashlee Renee Hensley. His sons, Airman 1st Class Seth Michael Nofziger and Brett Jacob Nofziger. His niece, Alexis Jade Hensley. His father, David Lee Hensley and his mother Karon Samuels. His brother, Joel Steven Hensley, his father-in-law Bobby Hodnett and wife Sandra and his mother-in-law Anita Hodnett and his brother-in-law Matthew Hodnett.

Friends and family will gather in Jerry Evans Chapel, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 5:00 P.M. to celebrate Derek’s life. It will be an informal occasion and a time of remembrance. In lieu of flowers, there will be envelopes available at the register book for those who would like to make a love offering to Lacretia.
