Debra "Debbie" (Fickling) McBroom

Debra “Debbie” (Fickling) McBroom went to be with the Lord October 9, 2023.  Debbie was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi on June 23, 1969, to parents Phillip Burch Fickling and Clara Yvonne Fickling-Ramos.  Debbie grew up in Grand Bay, Alabama where she attended school and loved being outdoors.  Her smile would light up the world when telling childhood stories of her horse Junior and her dog Boozer.  She also cherished the memories she had of staying with her grandparents in Lucedale, Mississippi, and playing with her cousins during the summers.  Debbie graduated from high school in Baytown, TX and she later married Darren Wilson.  Together they had their son Austin Darren Wilson.  Several years later she moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi and then Crestview, Florida.  While in Crestview she met and married Brian McBroom and then spent the next 23 years in DeFuniak Springs Florida.  Together they became parents to Kaylee Grace McBroom and Evan Wade McBroom.  Debbie was a Christian woman and loved her children completely.  She was a stay-at-home Mom for many years and later she worked in the Walton County School system where she loved working with pre-school age children.  As her children grew, she never missed Austin and Evan’s football and baseball games and was very involved in Kaylee’s beauty pageants and cheerleading.  Debbie believed in the value of a good education and encouraged her children to do well in school and attend college.  She led them by example by going back to college and receiving her own degree from Northwest Florida State College.  She had a bubbly personality, a beautiful smile, and a loving heart that just made you want to be near her.  Debbie was a Godly woman who enjoyed the simple things in life such as fishing, the beach, being outdoors in her garden, watching the hummingbirds from her porch, and, most importantly to her, studying GOD’s Word.

Debbie is preceded in death by her father Phillip Burch Fickling, paternal grandparents Everett & Jesse Ruth Fickling, and maternal grandparents Guyther & Alberta Fairley.

She is survived by her son Austin Darren Wilson & wife Emily of Charlotte, N.C., daughter Kaylee Grace McBroom of Troy, AL and son Evan Wade McBroom of DeFuniak Springs, FL., a granddaughter Blaire Grey Wilson and a grandson Roman Davis Wilson.

She is also survived by her mother Clara Yvonne Fickling-Ramos of Grand Bay, Alabama, brother Guy Vincent Fickling & Kathy of Grand Bay, AL, sister Velinda Gayle Hammack & Stanley of Lee’s Summit, MO, and brother Eric Lynn Fickling & Donna of Grand Bay Alabama.  She is further survived by Brian McBroom, Tommy and Kaye McBroom of DeFuniak Springs.

Many nieces and nephews also survive her:  Lucas Fickling and Family, Lance Fickling (Stella) and Family, Lacey Fickling-Byrd (Colton) and Family, Wesley Ross, (Missy) and Family, Jessica Brown, (Chase) & Family, Brittany Charlton, (Trey) and Family, Erica Fickling Wilks, (Chris) and Family, Cierra Fickling Brooks, (Jon Tyler) and Family, and Kinsey Fickling de Torres  (Andres).

A time of visitation for Debbie is being held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, 10:00am-11:00am at McDonald Family Funeral Home chapel.

Memorial service will begin at 11:00am.
