Dannie Burke Caudill

October 12, 1928 — May 14, 2016

Mrs. Dannie Burke Caudill, age 87 of Freeport passed away late Saturday night in North Okaloosa Medical Center. She was born October 12, 1928 in Bruce Florida, the daughter of Daniel Jefferson Burke and Iva Mae Evans Burke. The last of seven siblings, her brothers Brady “Pete”, Bradley and her sister Dadie, and half brothers Hasen, Teague and Payford and her half sister Hettie all predeceased her. After receiving her formal education in Walton County Schools, Dannie worked for a brief time at The Coffee Shop where she met an airman, Kemp “Curly” Caudill. They were married and after following him to only one duty station, she remained home during his career with the Air Force and raised their children. When Curley retired after nearly thirty years of service to his country he and Dannie farmed together until his death in 1986. Dannie was an active member of Baldwin Avenue Baptist Church and always loved homecomings and sings and dinner on the grounds. Folks always looked forward to her chicken and dumplings and her fresh coconut cakes. She remained very active for the thirty years after her husband’s death; she was a fan of football, basketball and enjoyed watching Family Feud and Jeopardy. She delighted in her children and grandchildren and found complete solace and communion in working in her yards with her flowers. She is predeceased by her husband and her son-in-law Ronnie Ingle.

Among survivors are her children, Roger Caudill and Sandy, Russell Caudill and Ann, Randy Caudill and Marcia, Craig Caudill and Kim and Rhonda Ingle. Her sister-in-law Edwina Burke and fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren also survive.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in Black Creek Cemetery in Freeport with Derek Caudill and Reverend Wilbur Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Caudill Family Plot.
