DANIEL LAMAR HAYES

August 15, 1943 — September 5, 2022

Mr. Lamar Hayes, long time resident of the Glendale Community of North Walton County passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 in Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation Center just 20 days after his 79th birthday.  He was born August 15, 1943 in Lockhart, Alabama, the son of Daniel Steven Hayes and Gladys Esther Bush Hayes.  He graduated  Paxton High School  with the Class of 1961 and in 1962 he and Martha Ann Cox were married.  He joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed on Eglin until his tour of duty was over.  In 1965 he began working with Vitro Services, on Eglin a job he would hold for seventeen and a half years.  In 1989 he became a member of Glendale Lodge #225 F&AM and until ill health prevailed was an active and valuable member of the Lodge, serving in almost every capacity and in 1995 became District Deputy.  He followed Alabama football and always delighted in their wins and on the rare occasions they lost, suffered with them.  He loved “river” fishing on the Choctawhatchee River.  He was a hunter and enjoyed being outdoors on the home site he and Martha enjoyed for so many years.  Lamar was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs.  He is predeceased by his siblings, Hayward Hayes, John W. Hayes, Hurland Hayes and Myrna McBroom.  He is also predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Mickey Cox and Joe Cox.

Among survivors are his wife of sixty years Martha Ann Cox Hayes, his sister-in-law Betty Phillips Cox and his beloved nieces and nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made in Lamar Hayes memory to Glendale Lodge # 225, 25 North Street, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 or to First Baptist Church, 216 Live Oak Aenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

A time of visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 2022 from noon until 1P.M. with the funeral beginning at 1P.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Tim Burnham officiating.  Masonic honors will follow in the chapel.  Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Florala, Alabama.  Friends and family may go on line to view obituaries, offer condolence or sign the guest register at jerryevansfuneralhome.com
