Biography

Dadie Burke Anderson, age 92 of DeFuniak Springs passed away peacefully at her residence Saturday, May 3, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born October 17, 1921 in Bruce, Florida, the daughter of Dan Jay Burke and Iva Mae Evans Burke. Most of Dadie’s life was spent in the restaurant business, owning and operating, most notably, The Hut Restaurant and The Bus Station. After retiring Dadie enjoyed working in her yard, spending time with her children and grandchildren and baking her renowned coconut cakes for friends and family. She was a faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Dadie was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Bradley, Pete, Hazen, Payford and Teaque Burke, her sister Hettie Smith and the father of her children, John Homer Anderson.

Among survivors are her daughter, Brenda Wright and husband Kermit. Son, Bruce Anderson and wife Sandy. Her grandchildren Ginger Pittman and husband Jeff, Joseph Wright, Brad Wright and wife Chelsea, Stephanie Anderson Bell, Nick Anderson and wife Beth and Elizabeth Anderson. Her great grandchildren, Jeffery, Mary Katherine and Wilton Pittman; Riley and Raegan Wright; Lauren and Hunter Bell and Jackson, Dylan and Katie Anderson. A sister, Dannie Caudill also survives as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Floral arrangements are being accepted or memorials may be made in Dadie Anderson’s memory to the church or the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in Jerry Evans Chapel with her grandson, Nick Anderson and Pastor David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Black Creek Cemetery.
