In loving memory of Charlot Evon Lindsey, 78, who passed November 6, 2024.
Born October 11, 1946, Charlot was the fifth of nine children of Clarence and Alma Bowers of Ponce de Leon, Florida. Charlot spent much of her lifetime as a resident of DeFuniak Springs/Eucheeanna community.
An avid gardener, Charlot also loved to cook amazing southern meals with her garden bounty, and, with a heart the size of Walton County, she loved to share these culinary creations with family, neighbors, and friends. Charlot had a servant's heart, and she readily served and loved all those fortunate enough to cross her path - even those who never had the opportunity to stand in her light.
Charlot wed the love of her life, Bud, on May 27th, 1987, and they spent the great majority of their 37 years together in their beloved Eucheeanna Valley, embracing and enjoying the good life that only having the best neighbors provides.
Charlot had five children – four girls and one singular boy. With the children being close in age, Charlot was in constant motion providing for her family. She worked multiple jobs for countless hours but still mustered the strength to provide the love, support, and attention that raising five God-fearing children demanded.
Charlot held several working positions that include floor clerk at Fisher Hardware, sales rep at AmeriGas, and garden department of Ace Hardware, but her last and favorite by far was working at the local library and providing far-reaching library service through the book mobile to the local community, especially the children.
When she wasn’t serving her family or community, Charlot loved the mountains, antiquing, camping, fishing, and collecting driftwood off the Choctawhatchee River. She and her loving husband of 37 years, Bud, adored and often traveled to North Carolina. Although the last few years didn’t afford the opportunity to travel nearly as often as they would have liked, the mountains were always calling.
Another passion Charlot shared with Bud was music and dancing. Many in the community may have had the joy to see her and Bud cutting a rug to the live music of Jim & Mike, and they even won a few dance contests. On the easier end of music, Charlot and Bud also enjoyed tapping their toes at the local bluegrass music festivals.
Over the last couple of years, when life began to slow, Charlot most enjoyed Bud taking them nighttime forest bathing on a cart ride through the woods, listening for hoot owls, the symphony of frogs, and the summertime call of the lonely Whippoorwill. Nothing ever being too great for his bride, Bud cut a beckoning path through the forest, calling it “Charlot’s Way”. One of her very last requests to her beloved just last week was,“Take me on a ride through Charlot’s Way.”
Charlot was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Alma Bowers; brother, Eddis Bowers; brother, Ronnie Bowers; and sister, Carmen Wilson.
