CHARLIE RAYMOND SMITH

June 16, 1934 — August 2, 2018

Mr. Charlie Smith, age 84 of DeFuniak Springs passed away at the family residence Thursday night, August 2, 2018   He was born  June 16, 1934  in Brushart, Kentucky.    He met  Julie Ann Walker and they were married  on March 27, 1978.  Together they drove an eighteen wheeler cross country.  Julie’s mom was a teacher in Shalimar so he and Julie  relocated to DeFuniak Springs.   He co owned and operated Rainbow Florist  with his wife Julie and he shared her love of animals.   If ever there was a stray, or an abandoned or abused animal of any kind, Julie and Charlie were an easy mark.  It was not unusual for he and Julie  to drive hundreds of miles to rescue an unwanted animal.    They owned and operated Imperial Pets which still operated to this day which fosters and rescues animals and the tradition carries on through their daughter Aileen.  Charlie was a skilled wood worker and created many works of wood craft which he gave to family and firends over the years.

Among survivors are his daughter, Aileen Smith, his grandchildren, Brandon and Madison and his great grandchildren, Geanna and Mackenzie.  His brother  Bill Smith also survives.

Private family services are being held at a later date.
