Biography

Mr. Chuck Sims of Gaskin passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 in Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born September 17, 1955 in Florala, Alabama, the son of Charlie Edward Sims, Jr. and Ruby Lee Harper Sims. Chuck was a member of Walton High School’s Class of 1973. After a brief time as a carpenter he joined the U.S. Army in 1973 where he served as an Army Ranger. After nearly ten years of service Chuck left the military and continued in the building industry as a contractor. After being injured in a serious traffic accident in 1983, Chuck was somewhat limited in what he could do, but tried his hand at farming, and was very successful in his production of various vegetables, which he freely gave to his neighbors. Besides his family, Chuck had a constant companion who was always by his side just about everywhere he went’ his dog Rover. There was a soft spot in Chuck’s heart for animals of any description and he could not stand to see any of them go hungry. Chuck was a part of the fellowship of First Baptist Church of Gaskin.

Among survivors are his wife Debbie Sims. His mother and step father, Ruby Lee Marshall and husband David. His daughters Tonya Nell, Stacy Ella and Anna Marie. His sisters, Glenda Arrant and husband Don, Denise Keefe and husband Wayne and Cheryl Alberson and husband Joe. His half brothers, Duane, Roger and Barry and his half sisters Joy and Ella Denise. Numerous Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Because of Chuck’s love of animals the family has asked that memorials be made in his memory to Walton County Humane Society, 365 Triple G Road, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433. Services will be held Friday, July 20, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. in First Baptist Church of Gaskin with Pastor John Knopes officiating.
