Cecil Roy Evans

Cecil Roy Evans was born in DeFuniak Springs, FL on March 13, 1953 to parents Cecil Raymond Evans and Hattie Mae Sargent. He attended Destin Elementary School and Pryor Jr High in Fort Walton Beach. Living in the area all of his life, Roy resided in Point Washington and Destin before settling in Ponce de Leon. He passed away on September 19, 2026.

Roy loved living in a place where everybody knew everybody. He spent most of his time where the locals gather - enjoying the local food and keeping up with the latest small-town gossip. His commentary was generally disagreeable and often landed him a trouble, but it never kept him away for long. Everyone in the area knew Roy and their love/hate relationships were always mended. When he wasn’t at the local eateries, he could be found spending his time fishing or woodworking.

After a health scare in 1999, Roy became close to the Lord and was baptized. During that time he carried his Bible everywhere he went with an eagerness to learn all he could. That memory is an encouragement to family who walked with him through that time.

Roy leaves behind children Curtis Byrd, Stanley Byrd, and Crystal Shepherd, grandchildren Chasity Wilson and Kylie Pate, great grandchild Tegan Wilson, and sisters Sandy Beck (Dave) and Julie Evans Audas (Gary). He is preceded in death by his father Cecil Raymond Evans, mother Hattie Mae Evans, wife Evelyn Evans and brothers Raymond Evans, and Charlie Evans.

Roy’s passing leaves an empty table at his regular spots, and his family and friends missing him and clinging to the memories they shared. 

A family service will be held and Roy will be laid to rest at Black Creek Cemetery.
