Carolyn Joyce Sykes

Carolyn Sykes, age 66 of Hacoda and Walton County passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in Flowers Hospital in Dothan. She was born February 2, 1946 in Rome, New York, the daughter of Kenneth Maynard and Katherine Beckwith Sykes. After finishing high school in New York, Carolyn’s life ended up in the Walton County area; she lived from the south end of the county to the north and even into the rural Hacoda community near Florala. She had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. Like most of her family she had a private pilot’s license. She excelled at word games and skill games and was a champion at Rummy. Perhaps one of the most telling things about Carolyn was her love of animals, pets of all kinds and closest to her heart in the animal kingdom were her three corgis, Katie, Uhlei and Joshi and her Grand Furbbi Daphney. Carolyn is predeceased by her parents, her brother Wayne Sykes, and her companion Lamar Turner.

Among survivors are her daughter, Tammy and fiance’ Joe Metzger. Her life companion Eddie White. Her sisters, Virginia “Chickie” Eldridge and husband Gerald and Cheryl Ingersol and husband Doug. Brothers, Philip Sykes and David Sykes and wife Rose.

Floral arrangements are being accepted. On Monday, September 17, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. friends, relatives and acquaintances of Carolyns” will meet in Jerry Evans Chapel and share memories and stories about her and what her life meant. In typical “Carolyn Fashion” her wish was that her ashes be spread by private plane over the area she loved so much.
