Betty Jean Johnson

July 11, 1935 — May 29, 2025

Westville

Betty Jean Johnson, 89, of Westville FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on May 29th at 4:20pm. She was the former wife of William Joe Johnson of Orlando, FL.

Born in Gainesville, GA, she was the daughter of Henry Edgar Garrett and Mary Elizabeth Garrett (Williams). She worked alongside her husband’s family businesses for 10 years before relocating to Orlando, FL.

Betty was raised Baptist and lived her life with a deep and personal faith. She enjoyed thrifting and collecting as a lifelong hobby. She also loved sewing quilts that have been cherished by family and cooking in a true southern manner, which will be greatly missed by all. She spent 30 years enjoying all that her property had to offer, including gardening, watching and feeding the wildlife, and quality time with family.

Betty will be remembered as the firecracker that everyone who knew her knew she was, for her deep family values, and for living her life slow and relaxed. She never worried about keeping up with the times or the Jones, and she was a perfect example of enjoying life to the fullest in the slow and simple ways we were designed to.

She is survived by her loving partner Douglas Stephen Pulaczewski, children Jody Ray Johnson, David Lloyd Johnson, Mary Catherine Gerdes (John D. Gerdes), Judy Ann Lathrope (Russell D. Lathrope III), and daughter in law Janet L Johnson along with 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eldest son Nathan Jerome Johnson and eldest daughter Martha Faye Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on July 11th at 11am at McDonald Family Funeral Home, 668 Walton Road DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. A time of visitation will be held from 10am to the time of service.
