ANITA RAE STRAUGHN

February 24, 1957 — December 17, 2018

Anita Rae Straughn, age 61 passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 in Sacred Heart on the Emerald Coast Hospital.   She was born February 24, 1957 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of  Donald Martin Boaz and Claudette June Claburge Boaz.  Anita, being the daughter of a military dad,  was very organized and structured in her life.  After living in Niceville, she wanted to own her own land and home and moved to DeFuniak Springs in 1994.  It wasn’t long before other family members moved beside her and around her resulting in an almost family commune.
Anita had room to garden, fresh vegetables and flowers which she freely shared with family and neighbors alike.   In the evenings she enjoyed watching television, mostly NCIS and Hawaii 50 and America’s Got Talent.  Even in death, Anita was organized; all of the necessary documents and papers were in order and available to her son and wife so they could carry out her last wishes.

Among survivors are her sons, Howard Covell Nichols, Jr. and Jessie Straughn and wife Melissa.  Her grandchildren, Grantt Davis Straughn, Austin Martin Straughn and Dalton James Claude Straughn.  Her brothers, Donald Boaz and wife Joanne and Charles Boaz also survive.

Memorials may be made in Anita Straughn’s memory to Alaqua Animal Refuge,  914 Whitfield Road, Freeport, Forida  32439    A casual dress celebration of Anita's life will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 from 10:00 A.M until 11 A.M.. in Jerry Evans Chapel and then family and friends, honoring Anita’s wishes will drive out to the property she loved and tended where her ashes will be scattered.
