Alma Jean Morgan was born on March 28, 1945, in Decatur, Alabama to parents Dewell James and Mary Elizabeth Russell. She grew up in a warm and loving home, surrounded by her devoted mother and father and 4 sisters. From an early age, Alma learned the importance of family and kindness, values she carried with her throughout her life. Alma passed away in Miramar Beach on September 19, 2025. She was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and was a member of Heritage Church of Freeport.
Known for her compassionate and loving nature, Alma was always willing to help her family in any way she could, making those around her feel valued and supported. She also appreciated having fun, and she possessed an amazing green thumb. In her early years, she liked bowling and playing bingo. She loved flowers, and her proficiency with plants produced beautiful flowers that were greatly enjoyed by many. Her only pet, a beloved dog named Tiffany, was always by her side for 15 years, providing Alma with sweet companionship and joy.
Alma is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was the proud mother to a daughter, Kathy S. Morgan and a son, Doyle F. Morgan and wife Sherry L. Morgan. Her genuine love and dedication extended to her 3 grandchildren: Blake Edward Pryor and wife Nicole Dykes Pryor, Whitney Jean Morgran, and Jake Doyle Morgan, and 5 great grandchildren: Canaan Shade Blake Pryor, Solomon Quade Cole Pryor, Ashton Morgan, CJ Weaver, and Alice Weaver - all of whom she cherished dearly. Alma’s family was always at the center of her life, and she gave her time generously to support and care for them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewell James and Mary Elizabeth Russell, and her sisters Betty Owens, Thelma Johnson, Libby Roberts, and Brenda James.
Although Alma did not achieve great monetary wealth, she believed true wealth was found in family. She worked hard her entire life, never losing sight of what mattered most. Alma wished to be remembered for her vibrant spirit in her younger years, when she was full of life and joy, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew her.
