Alice Laverne Risher set aside her earthly tent on Saturday, March 1, 2014,
almost a week after her 90th birthday. She resided in Mossy Head, Florida, and
passed after a short convalescence at Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing
Center in DeFuniak Springs.
Alice was born in 1924 in Tampa, Florida to Norman Walter and Margeret Clara
Price. She attended Jefferson High School, where she was a gifted athlete. She
played softball and basketball, and remained an avid sports fan all her life.
She hardly missed a Boston Celtics Game, and could be found in front of a T.V.
every week of football season.
She was an active participant in the Gideons, Campers On Mission, the
Lutheran Women's Mission League, and the Steven Ministry. She remembered every
name she ever heard, and was quick to share her love of Jesus. Her generosity
was extravagant, her heart for others overflowing.
Alice is survived by six of her own sons and daughters: Cynthia S. Lynn,
Janice E. Bailie, Nancy G. Bailie, Harry M. Foster III, Patricia M. Berch, and
Norman T. Foster. By seven stepchildren: Jay C. Risher, Lawerance E. Risher,
Charles W. Risher, Richard D. Risher, Robert L. Risher, John T. Risher, Carolyn
McGhee, and Renee Jones. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 60
greatgrandchildren, 3 greatgreat grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, by her sisters Marilyn
Cadrecha and Peggy Brakefield, her brother Robert Price, her first husband of 47
years, Harry Foster, her husband of 22 years, Jay Risher, and by her eldest
daughter, Linda Bernice Patterson.
Alice's life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 1:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church 24512 Fifth Avenue, Florala, Alabama.
